2022 Public Archaeology Days - July 22 to 25

Location:
Pierson Wildlife Management Area
Date:
Friday, July 22, 2022 to Monday, July 25, 2022

Brandon University archaeologist Dr. Mary Malainey and the Manitoba Archaeological Society invite you to visit us at the Pierson Wildlife Management Area.

We are working at sites located about 15 km south of Melita, just west of Highway 83 in the Pierson Wildlife Management Area. Site excavations will be taking place on the prairie level adjacent to the highway and in the Gainsborough Creek valley. The slope down to the site in the valley is quite steep. The site on the prairie level is more accessible.

Weather permitting, our 2022 Public Archaeology Day site tours will be held from July 22 to 25, at 10 a.m. and 12 noon.

Meet us in the grassy prairie west of Highway 83 (about 500 m north of the junction with 10N). We will give presentations about the sites and display some of the artifacts. Interested individuals will have the opportunity to work alongside professional archaeologists conducting the excavations.
